Thanks for the note, Al. Jim Hyde and I have been wondering about Jackie Oden's whereabouts for years. He was a room mate at some of the boarding houses we lived in during college and Butch Lynne often has spoken about his natural ability handling the Cub.

I also remember those days when you could solo the cub for 8 bucks. I didn't have a job at NTSU at first. I worked for a construction company called Shellenburger Construction Company in Sherman during summers. I was able to go to work pouring concrete a year before I was legally supposed to. That let me work 2 summers before my first semester at NTSU. I banked the money from both summers and knew exactly what I could spend each week to not run out of money before the end of my first year and it wasn't much. When I visited Hartlee the first time after hearing Jackie Oden talk about his friend Dale flying out there, I knew I had to fly. I got books from the library and read about stick and rudder coordination. I tried to get a feel for it by using two flip flops turned upside down for rudders and a relatively clean toilet plunger for the stick. I knew I had very little money to fly with so I thought I had better do everything I could to make it count. I'll never forget.

As mentioned before, if Mr. Harte liked you, you had it made! Here we have Jim Bellar lamming away at the old tetrahedron with a big rifle with Mr. Harte’s blessing. The entry and exit holes are finally explained. Jim is an outstanding marksman, the wind tee never had a chance!
Dale Gleason’s “hunting” at Hartlee was limited to trying to get a jackrabbit with a .22 or bow and arrow.
Thanks for the note, Jim.

Did you notice any 30-06 bullet holes in the wind tee? Mr George let me take a few shots at it from the hanger.

I've been looking through past issues in the archives. The pictures are amazing and bring back a lot of memories. I flew at Hartlee Field from around 1965 to 1970. I just looked at the picture of Butch. He looks almost exactly the same as he did then except for the hair color.
